Enjoy 5% Cashback when you Shop and Dine Overseas with POSB Everyday and DBS Woman Cards - until 31 March 2023

Update: Promotion has been extended from 30 November 2022 through 31 March 2023.

International travel is resuming at an accelerated pace with flight prices at an all-time high for selected destinations. It is therefore even more important than ever to take full advantage of ongoing promotions and opportunities to get the most out of your spending. From now until 31 March 2023, cardholders of the POSB Everyday Card and/or the DBS Woman’s Card will be able to enjoy an additional 5% cashback, on top of the usual points or cash rebates that they will receive, on eligible overseas offline spend (in shopping and dining categories) when they spend at least S$1,500 worth of qualified spend per calendar month.

The 5% cashback is capped at S$15 per calendar month but it is awarded in addition to what the participating cards already offer, allowing you to double-dip on promotions. The DBS Woman’s World Card is one of the best credit cards in Singapore for miles since it allows you to earn 10X DBS Points (equivalent to 4 miles per dollar) on eligible online purchases (local and overseas), as well as 3X DBS Points (equivalent to 1.2 miles per dollar) on all eligible overseas purchases. While there is a S$2,000 online spend cap on the 10X DBS Points bonus, there is no cap on the number of DBS Points you can earn on eligible overseas transactions - this means to say that you can actually earn 1.2 miles per dollar and an additional 5% bonus cashback on eligible overseas offline spend in the shop and dine category, so long you hit at least S$1,500 worth of qualified spend.

5% Cashback on Eligible Overseas Offline Spend in Shop and Dine

According to the terms and conditions of this promotion, eligible overseas offline spending in the shop and dine category has been identified as follows:

Category Description
Offline Shop Apparel, Department Stores, Electronic and Computer, Personal Services, Home/Office Furnishing & Appliances, Specialty Retail, Watches & Jewellery
Offline Dine Caterers, Eating Places and Restaurants, Drinking Places (excluding Fast
Food Restaurants)

Minimum Spend of S$1,500 Required per Calendar Month

As a quick reminder, S$1,500 worth of qualified spend does not need to be in the Offline Shop and Offline Spend categories - all eligible retail transactions (with the exception of general exclusions) charged and posted to the card during the appropriate periods will count towards this minimum spend requirement. To put this into a simple example, someone charging the following transactions to his or her DBS Woman’s World Card will earn the respective number of DBS Points:

  • Online Purchase (S$1,200): 2,400 DBS Points

  • Overseas Dining Spend (S$300): 180 DBS Points + S$15 Cashback

  • Total Spend (S$1,500): 2,580 DBS Points (5,160 Miles) + S$15 Cashback

Alternatively, you may also consider using the POSB Everyday Card to earn up to 8% cash rebate on overseas dining spend – the 3% cash rebate is capped at S$15 each month (which you can meet after meeting S$500 of spend), and the 5% bonus rebate on qualified overseas shop and dine spend is also capped at S$15 (met after hitting S$300 of spend) . For the sake of clarification, the 5% bonus cashback will only be awarded to eligible overseas offline spend (which means online transactions in a non-SGD currency are excluded) in the Offline Shop and Offline Dine categories, and there are only three participating credit cards in the campaign:

5% Cashback on Eligible Spend Offsets Foreign Currency Transaction Fee

Banks and credit card networks typically charge a foreign currency transaction fee on transactions that are charged in a non-SGD currency - DBS/POSB charges 3.25% on the converted Singapore Dollar amount for the aforementioned credit cards. While they are ways to avoid getting charged a foreign currency transaction fee, you typically lose out on reward points or cashback by doing so. With the 5% bonus cashback, you are effectively getting a 1.75% bonus rebate (after accounting for the foreign currency transaction fees) on top of your usual rewards.

Don’t have a DBS/POSB Card? Apply now and get S$150 cashback!

When visiting a major city, it is possible to charge most of all your transactions to a credit card - cash is becoming increasingly less popular as leftover currencies (especially coins) are troublesome to deal with at the end of the trip. Cash is also subject to depreciation so what you have may be worth less than what you have exchanged it for (even though it might also work to your advantage in certain scenarios). It goes without saying that paying with a credit card is infinitely more convenient, in some extreme cases, a credit card can also offer additional consumer protection through the use of chargebacks when you ask your card issuer to process a refund request.

If you do have international trips planned before the end of the year, it is a good idea to take advantage of the 5% bonus cashback promotion to earn up to S$15 worth of cashback per calendar month. This allows you to not only offset the foreign currency transaction fee but also earn bonus cash rebates on top of that! My personal favourite combo would be to use the DBS Woman’s World Card for eligible online purchases each month to earn 4 miles per dollar (and to trigger that S$1,500 minimum spend), and then use the same card for offline overseas shopping and dining spend for 1.2 miles per dollar + 5% bonus cashback (capped at S$300 worth of spend in equivalent SGD).
