An agreement with Spotlight Group Holdings Pty Ltd and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will debut the leading-edge Aloft brand in Melbourne, Australia. The new-built property is slated to open in early 2019 and it will form the centrepiece of a state-of-the-art mixed-use development located at 402 Chapel Street in South Yarra, known as “402 Chapel,” designed by international architect Tim Kobe from the strategic design firm, Eight Inc.

Four Points to be Re-branded into Hyatt Regency in Sydney?

When I stayed at the Four Points by Sherton Sydney, Darling Harbour last year, I fell in love with it. The newly-refurbished hotel offers a really impressive view of the harbour (check it out here!) and the location is also really great with everything within walking distance. I read this morning that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with a M&L Hospitality affiliate to transform the Four Points by Sherton Sydney, Darling Harbour into the Hyatt Regency Sydney. The re-brand will officially happen on 30 November 2016 if the agreement goes through.

A hotel chain's Best Rate Guarantee (or equivalent) can make or break a brand. While different hotels have different Best Rate Guarantee policies, I have had some successes with Hyatt recently when I was shopping for rooms at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne where I might be staying in a month or two. Hyatt guarantees the best rate when booking directly with them and they will match a lower, qualifying rate published on another site before beating that by an additional 20% - remember you will still earn your elite qualifying points and nights this way! While it isn't always easy to find a lower competing rate elsewhere (since the terms of the booking have to match entirely), it isn't at the same time, impossible.

The Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour was the first stay that I have had in the Four Points by Sheraton brand. While I was initially a little skeptical about the property, I grew to love it - in fact I actually prefer it to some other higher-tier properties that Starwood has. Firstly, a little bit of fun fact - the Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour is Australia's largest hotel (based on room inventory) - 862 rooms and 30 suites! The Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour has been rebranded to the Hyatt Regency Sydney.
