I Have Finally Gotten a Targeted Offer 3 Days Before the End of 2019 as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Member

While I have not been exceedingly impressed with the global promotions that Marriott Bonvoy has been running as of late (especially the one that offered me 2,000 bonus points after making four stays), most of the properties that I have stayed in this year have been fantastic! To reward me for my loyalty (and spending 50 paid nights with the program), Marriott Bonvoy offered me 500 bonus points (yup!) and I have not been given a single targeted offer until today. When I checked my email this morning, I realised that my account was finally given a targeted offer to earn double points on all eligible paid stays of two or more nights.

This targeted offer for bonus points runs until 29 February 2020 for me and after registering, I realised that the terms and conditions state the following (rookie mistake - you should always read the T&Cs before registering):

Earning period starts the day after members register through the end of the month, plus an additional two (2) months (the “Earning Period”).

What this means to say is that if I had registered for this offer on 01 January 2020, the earning period could have potentially extended up to 31 March 2020 (giving me more time to earn double points for my stays that are at least 2-nights long). Considering how I have a couple of expensive stays planned in March 2020, this mistake could have been easily avoided if I had read the terms and conditions first - although, with that being said, I am not sure if the Marriott Bonvoy offer would reflect a different end date based on when I register for the offer.

Now you might have already read that Marriott Bonvoy Events will be killing the 10 elite-qualifying-night benefit from 01 January 2020 so retaining elite status with the program is going to get tougher if that is something you are accustomed to. Getting double points on my stays of at least two nights will be useful in helping me build up bank for future stays at aspirational properties. If you do not have any elite status in Marriott Bonvoy offered me 500 bonus pointsThe Platinum Card from American Express gives you Gold Elite status for as long as you hold the card.
