Changes to Rewards Points (10X) Cap for Citi Rewards Card from 04 October 2018
The Citi Rewards Card is one of my recommended credit cards to hold in Singapore - up until last month, this credit card was offering a massive 8 miles per dollar on all Apple Pay transactions! Now that the promotion has ended, cardholders are still able to earn up to 10X Rewards (4 miles per dollar) when shopping for clothes, bags or shoes or at department stores or online shopping websites at eligible merchants. As you already know, the 10X Rewards is capped at maximum of 120,000 Rewards points per card anniversary year - this is about to change on 04 October 2018.
Instead of limiting the number of 10X Rewards to a maximum per card anniversary year, this will be changed to a cap of 10,000 Rewards Points per statement month - this means that if you have a S$5,000 transaction coming up, you will only be able to earn 10X Rewards on the first S$1,000 and the rest of that S$4,000 will only earn a miserable 0.4 miles per dollar (terrible!). This is obviously not a good change for people who tend to spend more in a single transaction (above S$1,000) but hey, I'll call it quits if they bring back that 20X Apple Pay promotion.
While seasoned miles chasers often look to foreign carriers for significant cost savings and sweet spots, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer remains the undisputed default for the vast majority of Singaporeans. From the sheer number of credit card transfer partners to the preference for direct flights over stopovers, KrisFlyer is the Ya Kun of the miles game.
