Hotel Review: Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel (Pool Terrace Room) - Blissful Escapes with 24-hour Stay Flexibility
There are currently more than 200 hotels in Singapore that have been approved by the STB and MTI for staycations. While there is no lack of room offers and promotions, the Blissful Escapes room package from Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel stands out in terms of value in being one of the best luxury hotel deals in Singapore. Guests booking this exclusive weekend room package can pick either the Pool Terrace Room or the Executive Suite (subject to availability) and they will also be able to enjoy an English High Tea experience with Champagne during the stay.

While you may be tempted to go for the Executive Suite (which I have personally experienced a couple of weeks ago when I got upgraded as a Platinum Elite member, but am still working on the review) since it is bigger, I highly recommend the Pool Terrace Rooms instead. The Blissful Escapes room package is available for check-in from Friday to Sunday and you will have the option of checking-in any time you want and then check-out 24-hours later. Since I typically do have quite a number of commitments in the morning I have decided to check-in at 3:00 PM on a Sunday - do note that prior arrangement with the hotel is required. Even though I was supposed to check-out at 3:00 PM the following day, the hotel has honoured my late check-out request of 4:00 PM as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member.
The Pool Terrace Rooms at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel are located on Level 5 of the hotel which is the same level as the swimming pool and the fitness centre (which comes with a basketball court). These rooms are 42sqm in size and while they may be slightly smaller than the Executive Suites (which average around 54sqm in size), they are a lot more beautifully-appointed and there is a real resort-feel to them. Both room types features M Club access but due to the current global situation, access to M Club is only allowed from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM when evening cocktails and canapes are served (but more on this later!).
The Pool Terrace Rooms are the best if you are planning to spend quite a bit of time by the pool since it is literally at your doorstep. However, due to the safe management measures, hotel guests will be required to make a booking before using the pool - you will also need to proceed first into the M Club to check-in and have your temperature taken.
I had no issues making a two-hour booking for the pool but I have actually stayed over on a Sunday (which is a lot less busy than a Saturday). Located on the same floor is where you will find the gym (as well as a half-basketball-court) but you will too, have to make a booking for that before entering.
Each Pool Terrace Room here at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel comes with a coffee machine so you can enjoy a cup of solid coffee on your balcony. TWG-branded teabags are also provided in one of the drawers underneath the coffee machine and they are replenished each day so feel free to go crazy with them. Since the M Club Lounge is not yet open throughout the day (at the time of writing, it opens for evening cocktails only), being able to make your own coffee and tea in the room is pretty important.
The bathroom of the Pool Terrace Room is my favourite aspect out of the entire space personally - I love how open it is and more importantly, the natural light that streams in from the side during the day. As I have mentioned earlier, these rooms remind me of a nice spa since it has a little bit of that throughout the room.
Obviously, the Pool Terrace Rooms are best for couples or very close friends but if you are sharing this with someone else who does not fall into that bracket, you can still partition the bedroom and bathroom with the rolling blind and sliding panels - there is also an actual door on the side - but do note that the sliding panels can be accessed from the outside.
In other words, you should really only consider this room type if you are planning on a romantic staycation or if you are staying alone perhaps.
When I stayed in one of these beautiful Pool Terrace Rooms back in 2015, bath amenities in this room type specifically were provided by Bulgari but it has now been replaced with Thann-branded ones (the same ones you find in the rooms and lead-in suites).
While the Bulgari-branded ones are obviously very nice to have, I actually like the Thann one a lot better since it reminds me of all the luxurious spas in Thailand specifically. If you have been to a nice spa in Bangkok, there is a good chance that the fragrance from the shampoo and body wash will remind you of that.
As part of the Blissful Escapes room package at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, hotel guests will get to enjoy an English High Tea experience with Champagne (usually priced at S$58++ per person) at the Lobby Lounge during the stay. Do note that prior reservations for the afternoon tea are required and the hotel should reach out to you to confirm a timeslot prior to your arrival but do keep that in mind if you have not gotten confirmation from them. Booking the Blissful Escapes room package will allow you and a guest to enjoy the English High Tea experience at the Lobby Lounge and it will also come with a glass of Henriot Brut Souverain NV Champagne each - I was unfortunately served Prosecco during my visit but I do believe it was an honest mistake since the entire Lobby Lounge was full while I was there so definitely keep that in mind if you are a Champagne-snob like me. Apart from that little hiccup, I actually enjoyed the sweets very much (and this is not something I say often at all) - the top-tier of the high tea set was absolutely divine with the right balance of sweetness and tartness.
Now you may not remember this but late last year, I wrote about how the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel will be unveiling a brand new M Club Lounge in January 2020. Taking over the previous Pool Grill restaurant, the M Club Lounge offers a tranquil resort-style ambiance for guests to enjoy, and finally, after weeks of operations, the M Club Lounge can now be accessed by Executive Room and Suite guests (as well as Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and higher members) during the evening cocktail hours from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Now I have to reiterate this because people tend to misquote me all the time - the M Club Lounge at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel is only open from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM so you cannot actually access it throughout the day for coffee and tea. There is someone stationed there from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (I think!) to facilitate the pool access but that is just it.
Much like the rest of Singapore, self-service buffets are still not allowed in Phase 2 of Singapore's reopening so there is actually a rather decent menu that you can order from - the food options do change on a day-to-day basis (I believe there is a different menu for each day of the week) but hotel guests will access to the M Club Lounge can enjoy unlimited servings of it from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM each day. Alcoholic (as well as non-alcoholic) drinks are available from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM (yes, four hours of unlimited drinks!) in the M Club Lounge and obviously these are refillable as well. For the Champagne-snobs, there is only sparkling wine in the lounge but the cocktails are actually really good (and boozy!) so if you are a drinker, this is really an affordable night out for you and your partner.
If you are staying on a breakfast-inclusive rate (the Blissful Escape room package comes with breakfast for two adults), it will be served at Marriott Cafe which is located on the ground level - the M Club Lounge is not an option at the time of writing. Hotel guests will be able to order from an a la carte menu and enjoy unlimited servings - the food quality is actually really good (better than expected) and I think the portions are reasonably large so you would probably be full from just one dish but feel free to order more if you wish to (over) indulge. You will also notice that your room number is not requested when you enter the restaurant in the morning. Instead, you will get a bill for the breakfast buffet which you can then sign to the room - this will not be charged so long your room comes with a breakfast inclusive rate. Personally, I do prefer this since it alleviates that bottleneck at breakfast when hotel guests are trying to get into the restaurant.
After spending over twenty nights on staycations since Phase 2 of Singapore’s reopening, the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel is definitely one of the nicer properties and if you are a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and higher tier member who enjoys a drink or two in the evening, doing a staycation at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel can be rather lucrative since you get four hours of solid drinks - there is also a promo which is currently running for TANGS members where you can stay for just S$188++ (double occupancy) and that is seriously a steal.

TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is a great value choice for budget-conscious travelers but its slightly longer walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station may make it less convenient compared to more accessible (but pricier) options in the area.
