Shop Small is a movement founded by American Express in 2010 in the US to ignite passion for small and local businesses, call attention to the valuable contributions they make to their communities and the economy, and encourage shoppers to support them. This is the third year American Express is bringing Shop Small to Singapore.
The Shop Small Research shows that about one in two businesses (49%) cannot survive beyond six months, if costs continue to rise or if sales do not recover by the end of 2022. Rising costs has overtaken the volatile COVID-19 situation as the top business challenge in 2022. The top factors for increasing costs are higher logistics (42%), raw material (42%) and labour (37%) costs. Consumers tend to shop local where they live (77%), work (30%) or when they want to find something unique (30%). They also generally see local businesses favourably. The most common opinions are that they are convenient (53%), affordable (42%) and essential to the community (40%).

Planning a beach day can seem simple, but unexpected issues often arise. Mornington Peninsula’s beaches are popular, which means dealing with potential crowds, fluctuating weather, and poor preparation can easily ruin your outing. Arriving late might lead to parking challenges, and picking the wrong beach can limit your planned activities. Many forget important items that could make or break their beach experience, leading to stress and missed opportunities for relaxation.
