uberPOOL - Uber's Answer to getting around Cheaper and Faster
I have always been a huge fan of Uber because when they first started out, they were so much better than Grab but truth to be told, Grab (and its fleet of cars and drivers) has improved dramatically over the years. With that being said however, Uber has always been far more superior at customer service - they actually read and reply to your feedback at lightning speed! Starting from 01 July 2016 (Friday), you will be able to utilise uberPOOL to get around - this is a service for pooling people who are heading down to the same place to save time and cost (as well as the environment!). Why bother you ask? Well, it's going to be cheaper than the usual uberX rates!
If you do not have an Uber account, sign up using my referral code UBERWHALE for a free ride (up to S$10)!
Using uberPOOL is relatively simple - you proceed to make a regular uberX booking but when uberPOOL is available, you will be given the option to select the cheaper alternative - it does seem like the more seats you require, the more expensive it gets (but still cheaper than uberX).
Here's how it works according to Uber:
Choose the uberPOOL option in the app. Enter your destination and request a ride. You’ll see your driver’s details straight away — name, photo and the details of the car. As with uberX, these drivers are have undergone an extensive screening process. uberPOOL will then match you with another passenger heading in the same direction:That passenger will either be in the car at the start of your trip, in which case you’ll see their name in advance; or Your driver will pick them up along the way, in which case Uber will notify you via the app. Whether you’re first or second into the car, Uber ensures that you’re never taken more than a few minutes out of your way. At the end of your trip, you’ll pay just like a normal Uber trip and receive an electronic receipt.
Sounds simple enough and I can't wait to try it out - oh and if you are sharing your uberPOOL experiences, be sure to leave an #uberPOOL hashtag for a chance to win some credits!
