The famous Mini “Mao Shan Wang” Durian Snowskin Mooncakes (S$68+ for eight) are made fresh without preservatives (and therefore do not last long) so expect to find luscious and satisfying durian pulp that is encased in a light snowskin. If durian is indeed the king of fruits, this has to be the king of all snowskin mooncakes!
Inspired by everyone's favourite Red Velvet Cake at Tuxedo (Carlton Hotel Singapore), the Mini Red Velvet Snowskin Mooncakes (S$63+ for eight) is filled with a rich and velvety cream cheese with a cunchy royaltine in the middle for added bite and texture. It is also a great way to introduce your friends and colleagues (especially if they come from a non-Asian country) to mooncakes!
If you are a huge fan of the traditional mooncakes, try Carlton Hotel Singapore's signature Mini Walnut Moontart with Egg Yolk (S$62+ for eight). These delicious little moontarts are the hotel's best-seller and it consists of a crisp and fragrant crust that encapsulates a smooth white lotus paste and golden egg yolk - a low sugar alternative without egg yolk is also available. Other traditional mooncakes to watch out for include the Red Lotus Paste Mooncake comes with double egg yolk and the White Lotus Paste Mooncake which comes with single or double egg yolk option.

If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have already known that the season for mooncakes (i.e. Mid-Autumn Festival) is coming up really soon and in the spirit of good fun, I have compiled what I would like to call a Mooncake Price Index (even though if we were to be pedantic, it is inaccurate to term it as that) for 2017. What I have done is basically gone through the price lists of all the hotel mooncakes that I have tasted so far to find out what the average price (GST inclusive) per baked and snowskin mooncake is - I have included both normal-size and mini-size ones for the sake of completeness. Do note that when there are multiple prices for different flavours, the cheapest price is utilised in this calculation.
