Mid-Autumn Festival (2016) at Wan Hao (Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel)
Looking for a daring combination of old and new? Wan Hao (located within the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel) resurrects the flavours of tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival (2016) with a collection of 11 different low-sugar mooncake creations and a limited-edition premium gift set. Mooncake-lovers will be able to indulge in the creations this year from 11 August 2016 to 15 September 2016 and the limited-edition Royal Gift Set this year will come with White Lotus Seed Paste Baked Mooncakes with Prized Karasumi & Angelica, accompanied with a classy Aged Old Pu’er Tea Set (S$188).
The mooncakes from Wan Hao are created with lesser sugar this year to present a healthier option for the enjoyment of everyone. The two-tier red treasure chest that has been hot-stamped with oriental trellis motif houses the mooncakes in a beautiful exterior. Some of the recurring mooncakes this year are crowd favourites - the White Lotus Seed Paste Golden Baked Mooncake with Black Truffle, Waxed Duck, Roasted Chestnut & Single Yolk (S$80 for four) as well as Wan Hao's signature White Lotus Seed Paste Baked Mooncake with Chicken Bak-Kwah & Assorted Nuts (S$64 for four).
New snowskin mooncake flavours this year include the Chocolate Brownie with Cookies & Honeycomb as well as Salted Caramel with Peanut Praline (S$61 for eight). The former flavour combines the satisfying chocolate brownie and ganache with the traditional white lotus seed paste but what really stands out is the little bits of honeycomb at the core of the mooncake which provides texture. The latter flavour brings together both sweet and salty sensations to create a beautiful medley on your tastebuds.
Want to truly impress your friends and family members? Personalisation of the mooncake boxes with complimentary hot-stamping of the company (or personal!) logo is available with a minimum of 50 boxes of mooncakes. The mooncakes will be made available at the hotel's Forecourt Stall and various shopping malls starting from 11 August 2016.
If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have already known that the season for mooncakes (i.e. Mid-Autumn Festival) is coming up really soon and in the spirit of good fun, I have compiled what I would like to call a Mooncake Price Index (even though if we were to be pedantic, it is inaccurate to term it as that) for 2017. What I have done is basically gone through the price lists of all the hotel mooncakes that I have tasted so far to find out what the average price (GST inclusive) per baked and snowskin mooncake is - I have included both normal-size and mini-size ones for the sake of completeness. Do note that when there are multiple prices for different flavours, the cheapest price is utilised in this calculation.
