The American Express Platinum Card is probably my personal favourite card that I have applied for in 2018 - the S$1,712 annual fee may put most people off but the perks are great and you can truly get your money's worth if you use the benefits that come with the card. One of the most interesting benefits that comes with the American Express Platinum Card is access to PLATINUM VIBES which is a members-only space that is created for Centurion and Platinum Members.
The lease for this beautiful space (located on level 2 of the Marina at Keppel Bay) has been extended until 30 June 2019 and members (Centurion and Platinum Charge Card only) will continue to enjoy a complimentary welcome drink each day - they will also be able to bring unlimited guests with them but reservations are definitely encouraged. There are rumours that American Express is currently searching for a slightly-more accessible location so we will probably see PLATINUM VIBES moving in Q3 2019 but until then, enjoy that marina view and those ultra-affordable RP90 wines curated by Park90. Food will probably be provided by Saint Pierre (only) moving forward but I will definitely share more once changes have been reflected online. PLATINUM VIBES is also now closed on Sundays (it only opens from Wednesdays to Saturdays) but operating hours have been extended from 12:00PM to 12:00AM except for Wednesdays (5:00PM to 12:00AM).
The American Express Chillax Program needs no introduction - Platinum (including credit card) members get to enjoy 1-for-1 drinks at some of the best bars and restaurants in Singapore. Just to be clear, this benefit is extended to holders of The Centurion Card, The Platinum Card, The American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card and The American Express Platinum Credit Card issued in Singapore. Today, Amrith by The Song of India has joined the ranks of the other merchants to offer a similar benefit.
Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways are now participating airlines in the American Express International Airline Programme and when I compared the IAP to public rates a couple of days ago, Business Class tickets on Singapore Airlines were 28% cheaper (but on average they are approximately 10-15% lower which is still an amazing deal!).
The Platinum Card from American Express offers plenty of benefits and with the recent inclusion of Singapore Airlines in the International Airline Programme (IAP), this card has gotten a lot more useful for me since I can now book Business Class flights at a significant discount (and still earn miles/PPS Value from them)! If you have been on the fence about this charge card, check out my previous article on how I actually rationalised paying for the S$1,712 annual fee.
When I wrote about the changes to the International Airline Programme for American Express Platinum Members earlier today, I did not expect the savings to be drastic. If you have not seen that article, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways have essentially joined the IAP and American Express Centurion as well as Platinum Members now have access to discounted Business Class and First Class fares (that is not publicly available).
One of the perks of the American Express Platinum Card that do not get talked about very often is the International Airline Program (IAP). When I rationalised paying the S$1,712 annual fee for The Platinum Card late last year, I noticed that the Business Flex rate for an Emirates flight costed approximately 11.5% lower than the publicly available rate. Today, a number of changes to the IAP have been implemented for The Platinum Card by American Express.
American Express Platinum Members in Singapore can now book Fine Hotels & Resorts rates online - get instant confirmation on luxury properties!
Last year, American Express offered selected cardholders the opportunity to get S$150 statement credit for simply spending S$500 in a single transaction at Marriott properties. Today, American Express has unveiled a brand new offer for selected cardholders to get S$200 back in statement credit for spending S$500 at participating Hilton properties in the region - this is a whooping 40% cashback!
Last week, I wrote about the opportunity to earn an additional 20,000 Membership Rewards (MR) Points on top of the spend bonus (applicable to all new American Express Platinum Card members) of 75,000 MR Points when you use my unique referral link. American Express has now changed this offer to 40,000 bonus MR points (equivalent to at least 25,000 miles) for spending S$5,000 within the first 3 months of card approval.
The American Express Platinum Card needs no introduction - despite the S$1,712 annual fee, this lifestyle card comes with a great deal of perks and benefits that can easily offset the cost of annual fee. There is currently a Referral Programme where invited members can get an additional 20,000 Membership Rewards (MR) Points on top of the welcome offer and benefits - you can access my referral link here to get more points!
One of the greatest benefits of having the American Express Platinum Card (and the Centurion of course) is the ability to book Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) rates - selected hotels that meet the strict criteria that American Express sets out will be able to participate in this program. For us members, this translates into a range of benefit that typically include a guaranteed 4PM late check-out and usually a USD 100 property credit that can be utilised during the stay.
