American Express to Add Six New Centurion Lounges by the End of 2020 - Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Become Second International Lounge
My American Express Platinum Card is up for renewal and I have decided to renew it for S$1,712 (yes, that is how much it costs in Singapore). The Platinum Card comes with a wide range of lifestyle benefits and the perks certainly justify the cost of holding the card (as long as you use them!). As you may already know, Platinum Members will get to enjoy unlimited and complimentary airport lounge visits under the Priority Pass network - members will also have access (+2 guests) to Centurion Lounges as well as American Express Lounges around the world. American Express has just confirmed six new Centurion Lounges that will open by the end of 2020.

Zach over at TPG has just consolidated a list of new Centurion Lounges that American Express will be opening by the end of 2020. If you are currently holding The Platinum Card, you (including your supplementary cardholders) will be able to access the Centurion Lounge and bring up to 2 guests with you. While there is still no love for Centurion and Platinum members in Singapore (in terms of having an airline lounge here), here are six new Centurion Lounges (slated to open in 2020) that you may choose to visit on your trips next year:
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
Heathrow Airport (LHR)
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
Denver International Airport (DEN)
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
The Platinum Card from American Express comes with a generous welcome offer of 75,000 Membership Rewards (MR) Points (equivalent to at least 46,875 miles) when you spend S$20,000 in the first 3 months of Card Membership. If you are a mile-chaser and would like to supercharge that earn rate, you may consider using my Platinum Card Referral Link for an additional 40,000 MR Points (which is triggered by spending just S$5,000 in the first 3 months upon card approval). This brings your total bonus to 115,000 (instead of 75,000) MR Points after spending S$20,000 in the first 3 months of Card Membership - these points can be converted into at least 71,875 miles! To fully maximise this, hit your spend target at one of the Platinum EXTRA Partners to earn 20 MR Points per S$1.60 spent up to a maximum spend of S$16,000 - further spend will earn you 10 MR points per S$1.60 with no cap. What this means to say is that if you sign-up for The Platinum Card using my unique referral link and spend S$20,000 at any Platinum EXTRA Partner, you will be looking at a total of 340,000 MR Points which is equivalent to at least 212,500 miles (10.63 miles per dollar!):
First S$16,000 at Platinum EXTRA Partner = 200,000 MR Points
Next S$4,000 at Platinum EXTRA Partner = 25,000 MR Points
Welcome Offer Bonus = 75,000 MR Points
Referral Bonus = 40,000 MR Points
Total = 340,000 MR Points
