American Express to Decrease Bonus Points and Increase Minimum Spend Amount for MGM Referral Program on 04 June 2020 - Apply Fast!

Back in October 2019, American Express increased the minimum spend amount on the American Express Referral Program from S$50 to S$1,000. With effect from 04 June 2020, the minimum spend amount will increase to S$2,000 for the Member-Get-Member Referral Program once again for all eligible American Express Credit Cards. Additionally, the number of bonus Membership Rewards (MR) Points will also fall for the referrer and the referee.

More Spend Required from 04 June 2020 - From S$1,000 to S$2,000

Previously, in order to take advantage of the MGM Referral Program, all you had to do was to spend S$1,000 within three months from the date of card approval (prior to 10 October 2019, you only had to spend S$50!). From 04 June 2020, all new referee will be required to spend S$2,000 (100% increase!) in order to be eligible for the bonus MR Points and KrisFlyer Miles. 

Reduced Bonus Points for MGM Referral Program from 04 June 2020

With effect from 04 June 2020, referred members for the American Express Platinum Credit Card will only earn 12,000 bonus MR Points (equivalent to at least 6,667 Miles) once they hit the minimum spend requirement of S$2,000. If you were to apply and get approved before 04 June 2020, you will continue to earn 15,000 bonus (equivalent to at least 8,333 miles) once you meet the minimum spend of S$1,000 within 3 months from the card's approval date. 

Existing Offer (ending 03 June 2020) 

• Apply for the American Express Platinum Credit Card

• Spend S$1,000 within 3 Months from Card Approval Date

• Get 15,000 bonus MR Points (at least 8,333 miles) 

New Offer (from 04 June 2020)

• Apply for the American Express Platinum Credit Card 

• Spend S$2,000 (twice as much!) within 3 Months from Card Approval Date

• Get 12,000 bonus MR Points (at least 6,667 miles) - 20% lesser than the existing offer!

At the time of writing, there is no change to the number of bonus KrisFlyer Miles for the American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card - the MGM bonus will continue to be at 7,500 KrisFlyer Miles from 04 June 2020 but a higher minimum spend of S$2,000 will be required in the first 3 months of Card Membership.
