Six Senses Exits Singapore Market, Reducing Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) Properties in the City by Two

The number of Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) properties in Singapore has just been reduced with both Six Senses properties in the city exiting the market. Effective from June 2020, the Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell (which both opened back in 2018) will no longer be managed by Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas - this also means that IHG Rewards Club members will have two fewer properties to earn and redeem their points at.

The Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell joined the American Express FHR program officially back in January 2019, offering Platinum Members a USD 100 dining credit and guaranteed 4:00 PM late checkout amongst other things. With both properties exiting the FHR program, the total number of FHR properties in Singapore will be reduced from 11 to 9. While no official statement has been made by Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas at the time of writing, industry insiders have confirmed that this has happened. Additionally, all traces of the Singapore properties have been removed from sixsenses.com as well as on the corresponding social media platforms.

It goes without saying that the hotel industry in Singapore (as well as other major cities worldwide) has taken a huge hit from the COVID-19 outbreak. Reports have shown that RevPAR has fallen by approximately 62% year-on-year to just S$69 in Q1 2020 according to CBRE Singapore Hotel Insights. Additionally, occupancy rates as well as ADR has fallen to an all-time low with properties in the upscale segment tang taking the hardest hit. Staycations were also not allowed during the Circuit Breaker period in Singapore and it is still prohibited in Phase One of the country's reopening.
